Today's treasure is a photo of Margaret Carter Thurston taken when she was about 14 years old. Margaret's lineage is well-documented and includes the Andrews, Goodale, and Thurston families. Several people in our family are working to create a complete family tree that includes a short biography of the life and times of each generation. One project I would like to work on is posting stories from Margaret's life, including her excursions to the volcano as a young woman and her solo travels by ocean-liner later in life. Posting them on the blog would allow family to add details or make corrections on dates/names/places. Big thanks to Ibby for cleaning up this image and emailing it to me.
I was able to clean up this photo myself, but badly damaged or foxed (spotted) old photos can be repaired and/or enhanced by Scancafe. You upload an image to them and they repair it and return it to you online. You don't have to send your treasured photo away. I am having some done right now and should be able to report back abut them in a couple of days. On their site you can see examples of how repaired photos look and they are great.
